SALVADOR (BA)
My first visit to Salvador was in July 2006. I joined a group of Brazilian students who went to a student meeting in the capital of the state of Bahia. We made the travel by bus, from Belo Horizonte. This bus travel took twenty-four hours.
When in Salvador, we enjoyed the beautiful beaches, that are not far from the center. At night we visited the historic center of Salvador, Pelourinho, or we attended student parties at the university campus.
Itapuã Beach was one of the beaches we had visited that time. A beautiful, rather calm beach. Not very surprising, since we were there in the winter. During the summer, and especially during Carnival, this beach is really crowded.
We spent the entire day at Itapuã Beach, enjoying the sun, the warm ocean water, the drinks and seafood. We did not need to request the food from the barracks, they are quite expensive, but from ambulant vendors. They sell processed cheese, which, they heat with charcoal, roasted shrimps, fresh oysters, mussels, boiled quail eggs, etcetera.
From Itapuã Beach, the city of Salvador appears at the horizon. At night, during sunset, the city lights are visible at the horizon. And that night, we visited a breathtaking sunset, with bright red and purple colors. Unforgettable.
