Praia de Fora and Praia do Farol, Ilha do Mel (PR)
Ilha do Mel (‘Honey Island’) is located in the Brazilian state of Paraná. The island is at a distance of about 100 km east of the state capital, Curitiba. The island may be reached by a ferry from the historic city of Paranaguá. A large part of the 2585 hectares is protected area; the minor part is very popular among tourists from Brazil and from abroad. From Paranaguá, the visitor may opt for two destinations: Encantadas or Brasília. Form Brasília a light tower (‘farol’) may be visited, as well as some beaches. The route to the tower follows an unpaved path along a large number of pousadas (hostels), souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. The picture is taken from the farol, where both the beaches of Praia de Fora and Praia do Farol are observed.
