226: Powder puff flower
OCTOBER 2009: Powder puff flower
When I was in Goiânia late October, my eye caught these beautiful flowers. Colorful flowers, with their slender stamens in shades of white and pink. The yellow-green petals created an interesting contrast with the deep blue of a cloudless sky and the dark green of the leaves. This lily species is quite commonly found in Brazil and is called esponja (sponge). Translated into English would be “powder puff flower”, an interesting tongue twister. The official name of this flower family is caliandra.
