236: Green caviar
On the way to Recife, capital of Pernambuco state, one day was spent on the beaches of Gaibu and Calhetas. These beaches are located in the municipality of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, one of the alleged locations where the first European landing might have taken place. Gaibu Beach is almost completely surrounded by a barrier of coral reefs, making the crystal clear water rather calm and fairly shallow. It is not uncommon to see dolphins there. And sure enough, we saw a dolphin playfully frolicking that day. What we also saw – on the beach – was something that looked like small green grapes. Very tempting to eat them. They even appear to be edible, as they are called sea grapes or green caviar.
