242: Dragging a jangada
You may see them regularly along the beaches in northeastern Brazil: flat-bottomed boats, the so-called jangadas. These – sometimes colorful – little sailing boats are ideal for sailing around on shallow coastal waters. The jangadas are mainly used for fishing, freight and passenger transport. Especially locations along the coast and along the rivers, which are difficult to reach by road, rely on jangadas. At tourist locations, the boats are used to transport tourists to more distant sandbanks, where passengers can enjoy their stay on the reclaimed beach – at low tide -, with a beautiful view of the coral reefs, the ocean and coastline. After a day of service, the jangada is dragged on the beach.
