259: Orange clogs
World Cup 2010 was an unforgettable one. Both Brazil and the Netherlands survived the group stage and the final sixteen. These two countries met each other in the quarterfinals. Brazil was heavily favored, and seemed to be heading on a fairly easy victory in the first half. But just after the break, there was the turning point and the Netherlands eventually won that match. That day, I watched the match in a small restaurant. I kept myself quiet, among the Brazilian fans, when the Dutch squad scored twice. Little more than a week later, there was the final against Spain. I was invited to watch the final together with the “Dutch colony ‘in Nova Lima (near Belo Horizonte). Some Dutch immigrants were elaborately dressed in orange, like these two supporters with orange plush and original wooden clogs.
