314: Church’s water mirror image
Aquidauana is a very large municipality in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It borders with a much larger municipality, Corumbá, which is more than twice the size of Belgium. Both municipalities are located in the Pantanal region, and both offer facilities of visit the vast wetlands of Pantanal, that is located Brazil and – to lesser extent – in the neighboring countries Paraguay and Bolivia. When I was in Aquidauana in November 2011, it was a very hot day, with temperatures reaching forty degrees centigrade. Suddenly, there was a strong breeze that blew down various objects in the streets. I had to seek shelter. After this breeze I returned to the Igreja Matriz, where I noticed an interesting water mirror image of this gothic-style church in the small pond in front of this church.
