004: Panoramic view
In 1999, when I was in San Diego for a scientific congress, I took the opportunity to travel around with a friend from the university. He arrived in Los Angeles, where we rented a car. From L.A., we went through the Mojave Desert to the border city Laughlin. From there, it was a long way to Grand Canyon, and we decided to spend some time at Grand Canyon Caverns. It was very interesting to descend sixty meters lower, to see a giant sloth and a mummified bobcat. It was already late in the afternoon when we arrived at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It had been snowing a little shortly before, it was quite cold. Nevertheless, we were amazed by the splendid views of the immense canyon, of the tiny blue ribbon of the Colorado river: it was much worth the effort!
