262: Bee on yellow flower

One of my favorite places in Belo Horizonte is Parque Municipal (Municipal Park), which is located along Avenida Afonso Pena. The official name for this park is Parque Americo Renne Giannetti, and counts 182 thousand square meters. The park, designed in the romantic English style, has the same age as the city, more than 110 years. In the park you might get a chance to observe little monkeys, but also a rich diversity of butterflies and other insects, including bees. They are mainly attracted by many colorful flowers in the so-called butterfly garden.

206. Bee and lilies

JULY 2009: Bee and lilies

I have already shown many photos of Lake Pampulha in Belo Horizonte, but you won’t get bored in this little piece of natural habitat in the metropolis. It was excavated more than seventy years ago, and now it has become one of Belo Horizonte’s landmarks. Since I’ve lived at several locations within walking distance of the lake, I have walked many kilometers and spent countless hours there. Especially with my camera. The lens was not only focused on the lake itself and surrounding buildings, but also on smaller objects. Like I noticed this beautiful blue lily, which was being inspected by a hardworking bee.

132. Bee

JUNE 2007: Bee

The bee was caught in action near the giant stone onion in Parque Pedra da Cebola in Vitória, capital of the state of Espírito Santo. Every weekend and holiday, the urban park attracts many visitors – the majority from Vitória and neighboring cities -, who spend their free time to relax, enjoy a family picnic, or a walk with the children. In 2007, it was still allowed to climb the stone onion and enjoy marvelous views of the park. Fathers encouraged their children to climb the stone, while the mothers observed them with worried looks. Because of the possible dangers of injuries, it is now forbidden to climb the stone. Meanwhile, the bee was doing her work. She had landed in a bright yellow field of sweet corn. The – spilled – corn probably had become an alternative nutritive source for the bees, and who knows, sweet corn-flavored honey may eventually become very popular.
