013: Dog’s patience
When you arrive in Nijmegen by car, it is almost impossible to miss the giant traffic rotund of Keizer Karelplein (Charlemagne Square). More than seventy thousand vehicles use this rotund every day. It is a so-called classic rotund, and may be very confusing for those who make use of it for the first time. The rotund was created in 1879, when the remaining fortress was demolished as part of large-scale urban expansion works. It was named after Charlemagne, who had one of his favorite palaces located in Nijmegen. In 1944, a crucial battle was fought in this square between American paratroopers and the German army. The Americans failed to conquer, which resulted in a decisive delay of the advancing allied troops on their way to neighboring Arnhem. The square now hosts a small park, with some ponds and a statue of Charlemagne. However, it is impossible to reach the park during rush hours. The dogs on the photograph are waiting patiently until they are allowed to cross one of the six streets that gather at the Keizer Karelplein.

323: Dog and cat
I was once invited to stay in a countryhouse in Nova Lima, for a weekend. I accompanied a good friend and friend of ours. The countryhouse (a sítio in Brazilian-Portuguese) belonged to her brother, who lived there permanently. Because he was vacationing elsewhere, we were invited to stay at his sítio. We stayed in a guesthouse, but we could also make use of the large kitchen with a traditional wood-burning oven, the pool, the billiards room, and the large garden. It was a sunny, enjoyable weekend so we could make long walks. The dog and the cat stayed at home, and in the picture it seemed as if the dog had realized certain obscure plans what to do with the cat, as he was caught licking his muzzle.

300: Lying in the grass
Brazil is a very beautiful country, many will agree with me. The downside of this beautiful medal is that many Brazilians do not care about the environment. This group leaves its litter negligently on any unused piece of land. For example, green areas and berms are littered with a wide range of waste: plastic, cardboard, metal, glass, pepper, old furniture, old white goods, paint cans, tires, batteries, and much more. The urban waste collectors have much work to clean up this mess, with a limited budget. Nowadays, small projects are being launched to make Brazilians environmentally friendly and to keep their environment clean. The dog in the picture is lying lazily in the grass, which is littered with waste. The grass has almost completely overgrown this waste.
