001: St. Ludwig’s Church
Bad Dürkheim is a small, historic spa town in the German state of Rheinland-Palatinate. The town is located at the edge of the Palatinate Forest and is situated near the major cities of Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, and Kaiserslautern. Bad Dürkheim boasts to possess the world’s largest wine barrel and is widely known for large-scale wine festivals. Not far from the railway station is the Kurpark, where you can find the Ludwigskirche. This catholic church was built between 1828 and 1829 in the classicist style. The construction of the church was backed by Bavarian King Ludwig I, and dedicated to Saint Louis IX of France. The German painter Paul Thalheimer made a wall painting depicting Christ’s Crucifixion with the image of Hitler as one of the crucified criminals.
