244: Iron mine
Minas Gerais (literally General Mines) is known worldwide for its vast mineral wealth. Large-scale extraction of minerals, semi-precious and precious stones takes place at numerous locations in the state. Minas Gerais is the largest producer of iron ore, accounting for more than half of the total Brazilian production. It is common to see iron mines if you travel by car, bus, train or traveling by plane. Complete peaks have been excavated in the search for iron ore. Enormous holes, surrounded by transport routes for the giant machines and trucks, are the result.
