APRIL 2009: Purple Orchid
Orchids are real beauties among the flowers. Not only because of the diversity of shapes and colors, but also because of the perfection of the flowers. Orchids are widely appreciated, and are cultivated at home with much dedication and affection. Commercial growers need to obtain experience for the best results; when achieved, the flowers are much valued. Exhibitions are held regularly, where the finest flowers gain the prices. These amazing orchids are perfect for fine, colorful pictures. The picture doesn’t show the frontal view of the purple orchid. On the contrary, the picture is taken from behind. A different angle.

133. Purple flower
MARCH 2007: Purple flower
In March 2007, I made various day trips to the urban parks in Belo Horizonte: Parque Municipal, Parque Mangabeiras, Parque Ecológico, and Jardim Zoológico/Botânico. My principal intention was to test the capabilities and impossibilities of my new compact camera. One day, I went to Jardim Botânico, the botanical garden that is located inside the ZOO, and situated at the margin of Pampulha Lake. I was there to photograph plants and flowers that were exhibited in thematic groups. Locally common flowers and plants, and plants from various Brazilian and foreign regions. I was also testing the possibilities of the zoom lens. I tried to focus on the stamens of a purple flower. It was not easy to have this part in clear focus, because the plant was moving on the rhythm of a light winter breeze. The final result demonstrated the harmonizing color combination of purple and yellow.

109. Purple flowers
MARCH 2007: Purple flowers
In March 2007, I had to replace my Sony camera for a Canon. The old camera, good for more than thirty thousand photographs and several thousands of kilometers of travel, got a serious problem with the lenses and the shutter. I went to several locations in Belo Horizonte for testing my new camera: the ZOO, Botanical Garden, Mangabeiras Park, the Ecological Park, and the Municipal Park. I took hundreds of photos of plants, flowers, animals, and landscapes. The results were very satisfying! One day, I was in the Botanical Garden, which is part of the ZOO in Pampulha District. I had the luck that many plants were flowering. Like the purple flowers on the photograph above; I had to aim in the air, the result seemed to be overexposed. With some slight digital modifications, without modifying the composition, I had managed to retrieve a clear and colorful picture.
