264: Confins Airport
When I first arrived in Belo Horizonte, it was common to land at the city airport of Pampulha. This airport, near the Mineirão stadium and the Federal University, has its limitations. For more than ten years almost all scheduled services were transferred to a more distant airport: Confins. Over thirty years ago the airport was – officially Aeroporto Internacional Tancredo Neves – coming into operation. But this airport grew only recently. Confins now has a capacity of 22 million passengers per year. When I left for the Netherlands in 2010, I had to wait a while for my flight. I took this opportunity to walk around and take a picture of the new terminal, still empty.
